Areas of Practice & Experience:

Andrew Mercer joined the firm in 2011 and works primarily in the areas of insurance coverage and commercial litigation. In his insurance coverage practice, Andrew represents both insurers and policyholders.

Prior to joining the firm, Andrew summered and articled at a Bay Street law firm. Andrew has also worked with the in-house legal department at Ontario Power Generation, providing advice on energy law, litigation and corporate matters. In law school, Andrew was Editor-in-Chief of the Dalhousie Journal of Legal Studies, worked at the Dalhousie Legal Aid Services and volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society’s in-house legal department.

Recent Work:

• Representing a lending institution in litigation arising out of over $17 million in loans that were fraudulently obtained
• Defending a university in a large defamation action
• Defending a general contractor in a multi-million dollar faulty construction claim
• Analyzing and providing opinions on complex insurance coverage issues
